My Creative Space 4 – Pink Gingham Lucky Kitten

It’s that time of the week again over at Kootoyoo and this week the hunt for a heart continues. There’s one in my picture below.

My creative space today is full of pink gingham because I’m sewing lucky pink gingham kittens for a children’s party order.

Here’s how to make one of your own:-

Place two pieces of fabric together of your choice with the fabric pattern on the inside.

Draw your pattern out on paper, cut out and pin to the fabric. In this example, I’ve drawn a kitten.

Draw around the template pinned to your fabric and cut out the shape about 1cm outside the line you have drawn.

On the right side of one of the fabric pieces, sew on eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers. You can use thread, buttons, beads, felt etc.

You can cut and tie the strands and leave as they will be inside the kitten and hidden away.

With the two pieces of the right side of the fabric facing each other on the inside, start to sew a small running stitch all around the outline marked. Remember to leave a hole on one side so that you can turn the kitten the right way out and stuff.

Turn the kitten the right way out. You may need to use a pencil to poke the ears and tail into shape. Stuff the kitten and then oversew the gap.

Decorate with a ribbon and there you have it, your very own sweet, pink gingham lucky kitten to keep in your pocket and bring you luck, wherever you go!

My kitten is approximately 11cm tall and 7cm wide.

    • Thanks Julia for dropping by and leaving a comment. I’d have never thought about kittens for a party and making something like that – but it is a really good idea. All the little girls are dressing up as cats – how cute! :-)
