Craft Saturday: Whales, Wikki Stix & Flower Arranging

Woollywotnots' Craft Saturday

Woollywotnots' Craft Saturday

Hello You Crafty People!

Hope you’ve all enjoyed a good week and had time for some crafting.

Saturdays are great for plenty of craftiness!

Share what crafty ideas you’ve been working on this week and link to this post. You can use the button.

Here’s mine for this week:

I’ve been flower arranging. I love flower arranging; for me, it is a real indulgence, therapeutic and time to relax. I chose reds and purples, my favourite colours.

This week, I’ve been knitting some whales.  If you’re interested in adopting a whale, click this link from the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

Mummy and Baby Whales are a lovable collectable pair for whale fans.  Mummy Whale is approximately 15cm in length and Baby Whale is approximately 12cm in length.

The price is for both the Mummy and Baby Whale and available for purchase from Etsy or Folksy.

Also, this week, we’ve been playing with wikki stix.

Wikki Stix

Wikki Stix

Wikki Stix are great for all sorts of craft ideas from greeting cards to modelling; creating scenes. Playing and learning and letting your imagination go! There’s no need for glue. It sticks together with a gentle finger touch. Read the wikki stix website to see how it can be beneficial for occupational therapy uses, special needs and those sight impaired. There’s a super starter pack available from Amazon.

The Royal National Institute for the Blind and partially sighted state about wikki stix:

Endlessly re-usable flexible strips can be bent, stuck together and pressed onto most surfaces to form creative and colourful tactile pictures.

  • they stick to each other and to almost all surfaces with just fingertip pressure
  • children can be creative building shapes and making simple tactile diagrams with these fun and easy-to-use Wikki Stix
  • safe and durable – no wires or sharp parts, never crumble, dry out, melt, stain, pull apart or break, non-toxic
  • mistake proof – press them down, peel them off and start again
  • made of wax and yard in a choice of primary or neon colours

I made a variation on a dream catcher.

Wikki Stix Dream Catcher

Dream Catchers originate from the Native American tribes who believed that dreams weaved through the holes. Good dreams filtered into the dreamer’s consciousness and bad dreams were caught in the web of the dream catcher and expired when the sun caught the dream catcher. This is a really interesting website all about dream catchers

  1. Those whales are so cute and the wikki stix look really fun to play with!

I’m thinking of working on either a mobile or making some Japanese fabric flowers… but instead am sitting reading blogs and thinking about a nap :)

    • Hi Melanie, thanks for popping over to my blog and leaving a comment. Your blog is always so interesting to read. Thoughts of japanese fabric flowers must be inspired from your trip! Looking forward to seeing and the mobile too. :-)

  3. I love the baby and mama whales, they are so cute! Your flowers are gorgeous; love the red roses.

Yesterday I made a pink and blue artist trading card … hmmm, wonder why I would choose those colors? You’ll have to stop by and see ;-) I also started working on some baby booties for charity.
