Thursday already! Time does seem to fly. Time for creative spaces!
This week, mine is inspired from reading 1000 Artist Journal Pages by Dawn DeVries Sokol It is one of the books for July over on Woollywotnots Craft Book Club . The online book club is newly launched with a forum to chat about books and any other crafty thoughts and life in general. I’d love you to join up. It’s free. The more the merrier!
Span’s Stitchin is reading another of the July books called Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts! Lacy Crochet and chats about it on her blog.

My creative space
I’ve been chatting about 1000 Artist Journal Pages on the forum. Here’s my first try yesterday at a diary page, inspired by the work of Lydai Velarde.
I drew it all out first in black pen. I’ve never produced a diary page in picture form before and it was really good fun and inspiring.

Then I coloured it all in

Coloured Journal Page
You can see larger pictures of this page on my flickr.
I was also inspired by Tom Judd’s drawings at 50up. He fills a page everyday with his drawings, doodles and text with the date in big letters.
I enjoyed making the page. I noticed afterwards that as my day progresses and into the evening, it is more spaced out, reflecting the change of pace and relaxation
It is quite busy during the working day!
Another thing I love about art journalling is having an excuse to use lovely pens. I think having good quality art materials is really important. I’ve wasted money in the past buying cheap pens and they run out before you’ve used them very much. Quality rather than quantity is important when it comes to art materials in my view. Here are my recommendations for art journalling pens (all found in my creative space today):
Faber Castell PITT Artists’ pens come in a whole host of colours and size of nibs. I love outlining, doodling and drawing in the sanguine, sepia and black superfine tips 0.4mm and I have a box of 48 Pitt Artists’ Brush Pens for colouring. Anything Faber Castell is just brilliant!

Sakura Gelly roll pens are so lovely to work with and so funky in metallic and glitter in beautiful shades. There are a whole host of pens for scrapbooking and journalling. There’s a brilliant souffle white pen that is great for drawing on black.

Sakura Gelly Roll Pens
Sakura also make fantastic micron pens which are brilliant for art journals.

Micron Pens
Sharpie permanent markers come in a range of fab, bright colours. I use them for all sorts of things, they are great for labelling.

and last but by no means least, the Triplus fineliner assorted colour pens by Staedtler

My sister and I always laugh about how we never used to use our most special treasured gifts because they were too good! Funny isn’t it!
I’m afraid now, I’m quite the opposite and experiment with everything.

I love your journal page, it looks like it was so much fun to create. I’ve heard good things about those Pitt pens but never tried them. I do have the gelly roll pens and adore them.
Oh, now you’ve made me want to go buy dozens of new pens! I have been wanting to give art journaling a try. I’m a terrible diary-keeper, always fail after a few days, but I think if I could get in the habit, I’d find it expanding my creativity a lot!
i love pitt artist pens – they are so smooth to write and draw with
i adore sakura gel pens too – other gel pens just do not compare – souffle are my favourites!
