How to Knit an IPOD case

Keep your IPOD snug and warm and scratch-free with a lovely knitted IPOD case.

If you are making this for a gift, think about what colours the recipient likes or colours within their home.

I used 1 50g ball of Regia’s sock wool because I like the self-striping effect. Regia yarn is available from most yarn stockists.

You will also need a set of four double pointed needles, size 2.5mm  (US size 1)

Loosely cast on 48 stitches and divide these stitches evenly over 3 double pointed needles.

Knit 54 rounds in a rib pattern of knitting 2 stitches and purling 2 stitches or until your knitting measures 13cm.

Next two rounds: Knit

Finish the end of your IPOD case using the kitchener stitch, which grafts two sets of stitches together. If you are unsure how to do this stitch, there are plenty of tutorials, by doing a quick search on Google.

Divide your stitches equally between two needles, 24 stitches on each needle.

Cut yarn, leaving a 30cm length to work with.

Thread this length through a needle and hold the two needles containing the stitches parallel with the thread hanging from the back stitches on the right.

Put the needle purlwise thorugh the first stitch on the front needle and pull the yarn through.

Put the needle knitwise through the first stitch on the back needle and pull yarn through.

Then:

**put the needle knitwise into the first stitch on the front needle and slip off the knitting needle.

Put the needle purlwise into the next stitch on the front needle and pull thread through.

Put the needle purlwise into the first stitch on the back needle and slip off the knitting needle.

Put the needle knitwise into the next stitch on the back needle and pull the thread through. **

Repeat this process from ** to ** until all your stitches have been grafted. Finish the two remaining stitches nealty and thread the yarn end into the knitting.

Et voila, a lovley ipod case for your ipod.

Happy Knitting!

  1. How funny … I just bought an MP3 player and have been thinking about knitting a case for it with sock yarn. Thanks for the tutorial. I haven’t tried Kitchner stitch yet but plan to learn some day.

    • Oh how great is that! : ) Enjoy your MP3. Hope you’ll share your favourite recommendations. I like my MP3 for working out with, listening to talking books and music.

  2. Today I dowloaded some great music … Simon & Garfunkel, Stevie Wonder and Cat Stevens. I adore ’70′s music! I also got a couple of Kelly Clarkson songs, the winner of American Idol a few years back. I really like her voice.

What kind of music do you listen to?

    • You’re like me with a varied taste in music :-) At the moment, I’m listening to Simple Minds, Michael Jackson, Moby, Kings of Leon, Take That, Blur, The Human League, Lady Gaga, La Roux & Snow Patrol. I like most kinds of music from easy listening, jazz, pop to dance & rock :-)

  3. Love it! Come link your cute tute at my party: Thursday’s Treasures!!
